Join McKinley PTA!

Why should I join the PTA?

PTA will help you get connected – there’s no better what to know what’s happening at McKinley.  PTA functions are opportunities to form a network of McKinley parents and teachers, build rapport, and discuss issues that are on your mind.  PTA can be a way for you to more effectively suggest change at our school; you’ll be a part of the solution.  By becoming a PTA member, you’ll be demonstrating to your child the importance you place on education.  By volunteering with the PTA, you put your skills and hobbies to use for a noble cause – your child and all the children in the community.

Who can join?

Anyone who supports the efforts of PTA can join – parents, teachers, students, grandparents, aunts, uncles, neighbors….

I’d like to attend PTA meetings.  When and where do they take place?

McKinley PTA holds meetings on the first Tuesday of every month at 6:30 pm in the Panther Room.  Park in the staff parking lot and enter the building through the lunch shelter gate.  Come as early as 6:oo to socialize and enjoy light snacks.  Meetings usually run for 1-1 ½ hours.  Childcare is provided and includes pizza for the kids!

I can’t attend meetings and I don’t have time to volunteer at school.  Should I still join the PTA?

YES!! "Membership" does not mean "volunteering". Becoming a member means that you are supporting the efforts of McKinley PTA, as well as the work of California and National PTAs. The more members we have, the more support the children in our school and community will receive.  Attendance at the PTA meetings is completely voluntary, and anyone can attend, members and non-members alike.  We also communicate via email between monthly meetings.

In what ways does McKinley PTA support the school?

McKinley PTA offers afterschool programs, family nights, Art education, book fairs, sports programs, and book exchanges.  We provide activities for state and nationally sponsored events like Start the Art Week, Red Ribbon Week and Earth Day, and participate in the Reflections art contest and International Walk to School Day.  We host a pumpkin patch, a variety show, Valentine’s parties, a rock show, and devote an entire month to college awareness.  In addition, PTA pays for the buses for all of the field trips, supports the AR program at McKinley by paying for all of the tests and prizes, and purchases clothes for the nurse’s office for children to have if they have an accident or big spill.  PTA sends a low-income student to camp every summer through the Burbank Coordinating Council Campership Program, organizes and pays for many of the assemblies at McKinley, and pays for a representative to go a Legislative Conference.  PTA brings juice and cookies to the kindergarten classes on the first day of school, donates $500 every year to the scholarship fund, and paid for books so McKinley parents could take English classes right here at McKinley.

How much does it cost to join?

The annual cost of membership in McKinley PTA is only $5 per member, and includes membership in the California and National PTAs.   Fifty cents of each membership dues stays with the McKinley PTA.  The remaining $4.50 is paid to the state and national organizations to help fund programs and provide resources available to all PTA members.

How do I become a member?

Pick up a membership envelope in the school office. Fill out the envelope, enclose $5 per member, and return the envelope to school!
